About Pack 888

Who We Are

The Pack 888 community, founded in 1947, is centered around our meeting place, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia.  Most of our scouts attend schools in the Fort Hunt community, such as Stratford Landing, Hollin Meadows, Belle View, Waynewood, Fort Hunt, Hybla Valley, Groveton, St. Louis, St. Mary's, and Aquinas Montessori elementary schools.

Pack 888, like all Cub Scout Packs, is more than just its Scouts.  It is its Scouts and their families.  Cub Scouting is a family activity, and is organized, planned, and implemented by parent volunteers, and enjoyed by Scouts, parents, and siblings alike.

In Cub Scouts, children in Kindergarten through 5th grade (ages 5 to 11 years old) are shown friendship, citizenship, character development, and personal fitness in a family oriented pack. Our goal is to make the Cub Scouting Program a meaningful journey of personal growth, learning, and most importantly, FUN!

Cub Scout Pack 888 is currently sponsored by Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Alexandria, Virginia. We meet regularly at the Church. Our Cub Scout Pack was founded in 1947. Most of our scouts attend schools in the Fort Hunt community (including Stratford Landing, Hollin Meadows, Belle View, Waynewood, Fort Hunt, Hybla Valley, Groveton, St. Louis, St. Mary's, and Aquinas Montessori). This is an active Pack run by some excellent parent volunteers. Cub Scout Packs are made up of “Dens” with each Den consisting of scouts in the same grade. Each Den has at least one adult leader. Dens meet once or twice a month and the Pack (which includes all of the dens) meets once a month.

Why Join? Cub Scouting teaches and reinforces many core skills and values like Character, Integrity, Honesty, & LeadershipOur scouts can learn while they're having fun. A few fun activities that Cub Scout Pack 888 has done in the past include:

  • Community service and environmental conservation
  • Camping (Fall & Spring)
  • Pinewood Derby
  • Scouting for Food
  • Summer camps
  • Ice skating

How Do I Join Cub Scouting? Cub Scouting is open to all boys and girls in Kindergarten through 5th grade. For more information please feel free to Contact Us and drop us a message.

Cub Scouting is for parents, too! Active, committed leaders and parents are the heart and soul of a successful Cub Scout pack. A little time and a little effort can make a huge difference in a young scout's life. Volunteer to help at one of our many events... you'll be glad you did!

My child is a 5th Grader, now what? Many of our Cub Scouts continue on in Scouts BSA. Choosing a Scout Troop is much like choosing a group of friends with similar interests. Some Troops focus more on outdoor activities, some more on community service, etc.

Please join us and have fun with your child in the exciting and character-building world of Scouting!
